EMAP Flying Fish – LA37767 Unit 120, 2001

The ASU Eastern Mimbres Archaeological Project (EMAP) field school excavated part of site LA 37767 in the summer of 2001. The objective of this project was to gather data from Mimbres Classic Period habitation rooms to test the hypothesis that a change to greater residential mobility would show a shift away from village settlements. The excavation would also illuminate occupational history of Mimbres Classic sites in the eastern Mimbres area. LA37767 is located on a basalt piedmont on an upper terrace of the Arroyo Seco. This is a locally perennial stream, which drains a portion of the Black Range into the Rio Grande. LA37767 is a multiple room block site; it includes at least two occupations as it consists of an upper room block built upon the ruins of a lower room block. This site also includes at least three isolated rooms that are separated from the main room blocks.
