The Berlin Pulse - After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022

The study after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, part of the annual “The Berlin Pulse” series, was conducted by Kantar Public on behalf of the Körber Foundation. During the survey period from March 8, 2022, to March 10, 2022, eligible voters in Germany were interviewed by telephone (CATI) on the following topics: Opinion on Germany´s future involvement in international crises, currently the most important partner country for German foreign policy, the US as Germany´s partner on selected issues, opinion on greater independence from the US in security policy. Respondents were selected using a multi-stage random sample including landline and mobile phone numbers (dual-frame sample). Opinion on Germany´s future involvement in international crises (more involvement vs. continuing to be rather cautious); currently the most important partner country for German foreign policy; more important for Germany: close relations with the US, close relations with Russia, equally close relations with both; the US as Germany´s partner on the following issues: protecting and defending Europe, for example within the framework of NATO, dealing with Russia; China as Germany´s partner in dealing with Russia; Germany should become more independent from the US in its security policy in the future; reason for Germany´s greater independence from the US in security policy (ensuring security in Germany and Europe even if the US withdraws, we should pursue different goals with our security policy than the US, neither/other reason); party preference in the federal election (Sunday question). Demography: sex; age; occupation; education; net household income. Additional variables coded: respondent ID; federal state; region (west/east); political municipality size class; weighting factor.
