Environics International Environmental Monitors (EIEM) is a syndicated annual survey of global public opinion on a variety of environmental and natural resource issues. The findings of the 1999 Survey are based on the results of face-to face or telephone interviews with representative samples of about 1,000 citizens, in each of 27 countries on all six continents, representing 65 percent of the world's population. Research was conducted by respected social research institutes in each country between March 1, 1999 and August 27, 1999. A total of 42 questions were asked dealing with such topics as threats to future generations, factors affecting human health, choices involving the environment and the economy, concern about specific environmental issues, climate change, personal action, governance issues, corporate performance, the benefits and risks of modern technology, biotechnology, packaging and the automobile.
