A chromosome-scale genome assembly of the peanut beetle, <i>Ulomoides dermestoides</i><i> </i>(Coleptera: Tenebrionidae)

peanut beetle, cancer beetle, or asthma beetle. Despite its origin in Asia, it has achieved global distribution owing to its perceived medicinal properties. In this study, we employed a combination of Illumina short-read, PacBio long-read, and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) sequencing technologies to produce a high-quality, chromosome-scale genome assembly of U. dermestoides. The assembled genome spans 253.38 Mb across 11 chromosomes, including the two sex chromosomes, X and Y. Key metrics include contig and scaffold N50 values of 9.83 Mb and 28.62 Mb, respectively, with an estimated genome completeness of 99.62%. Annotation efforts identified 15,553 protein-coding genes and revealed that 48.11% of the genome comprises repetitive sequences. This meticulously assembled genome serves as a pivotal resource for elucidating the genetic determinants underlying the species' ecological habits and potential medicinal properties.
