As pointed out by several authors, the double-pass (DP) image contains the effects of both aberrations and scattering. When the lower-order aberrations are corrected, the DP PSF in a normal eye is affected predominately by higher-order aberrations and light scatter. While the aberrations influence the light distribution at the central region of the DP image, the intraocular scattering causes an increment of the intensity further away from the central maximum of the image. Therefore, this study chose to analyze a peripheral portion of the DP PSF. The region of interest (ROI) chosen for the analysis was a ring between 25 to 35 minutes of arc, whose center was in the centroid of the spot of the cropped DP image (256x256 pixels).To determine the transmittance of the ocular media, a series of DP images were recorded, each one was taken at a different intensity of the laser diode, which was controlled by a supply voltage from 0 mV to 4000 mV. The gray level in the ROI increased as the intensity of the laser increased. The average of the scattering determined as a mean gray level intensity (which we will call hereafter double-pass scattering (DPS)) varies linearly with laser voltage. We have used the slope of the DPS/Laser Voltage line to derive an Ocular Transmittance Index (OTI). As the light had to cross the ocular media twice to reach the CCD sensor, it was expected that the OTI slope has a functional relationship with the transmittance (T), as follows: OTI ∝ T^2.The data set corresponds to the profiles of the double-pass images measured in different conditions: artificial eye with and without filters, artificial eye with induced defocus, subjects of Group A and subjects of Group B.The first column shows the angular distance in arc minutes, while the following columns show the radial profiles corresponding to each laser voltage.<br>
