资源简介:
The aim of this study is to explore multiple aspects of laying hens' interactions with mineral-based pecking stones (PS), which serve as edible enrichments high in calcium. Specifically, to determine whether hens have a preference for Soft or Hard PS, both containing the same amount of calcium. Also, to investigate whether hens' pecking behavior follows a diurnal pattern that aligns with their calcium appetite. Additionally, the study evaluates how the consumption of PS influences eggshell quality, measuring factors such as eggshell breaking strength and thickness. By using a controlled experimental design involving two phases of treatment, the experiment analyzes changes in PS consumption and pecking behavior over time. This study also explores how prior exposure to one type of PS affected hens' preferences during subsequent treatments.
