The objectives of this study were to rapidly start the AGS system and enhance the nitrogen removal by applying polyurethane sponges. To verify the hypotheses, two sequencing batch reactors that one had PUS and the other did not were used, and the granulation process, nutrient removal, and microbial community were monitored.
