Data for classroom activities on stratigraphy, porosity and permeability

In this dataset we provide documentation (teacher and student worksheets, handouts) that accompany the article "Classroom activities on stratigraphy, porosity and permeability", published in the Fall 2024 issue of The Earth Scientist, the journal of the National Earth Science Teachers Association, as well as the article itself. We present three hands-on activities to introduce fundamental concepts about the disposition (stratigraphy) and internal structure (porosity) of rocks and soils, as well as how fluids move through them (permeability). We have used these activities to engage participants of various ages (K-12 students and their parents, K-12 teachers, college-level students) in diverse settings (classroom, teacher professional development, community science expos).
