Heliconius hermathena is a unique tropical butterfly that inhabits small, isolated pockets of open forest throughout Brazil. It is also one of the rare examples of non-mimetic Heliconius species. We sequenced and assembled the H. hermathena genome to facilitate inferences about its population history and the evolution of its unique non-mimetic and rare mimetic wing color patterns.
