This repository contains data and softwar to support the paper "Extremely Tenuous, Dusty Terrestrial Atmospheres Remain Stable Against Global Collapse: An Argument for Arid Planet Habitability in the Trappist 1 System" published in the Astrophysical Journal in 2025 (authors: Victoria L. Hartwick, Melinda A. Kahre & Robert M Haberle). Figure data is post-processed from global climate model simulations of Mars-like exoplanets using the exoplanet configuration of the NASA Ames FV3-based Mars GCM version 3.0, which is publicly available. Specific code modifications to run in the exoplanet configuration are summarized in the User Guide. In the exoplanet configuration, the planet is tidally locked and orbits in the habitable zone of a late stage M-dwarf. The semi-major axis and rotation rate are set to match Trappist-1e. Data is derived from four simulations with varying levels of prescribed, spatially invariant atmospheric dust (clearsky, visible column opacity = 0.1, visible column opacity =0.5 and visible column opacity=1.0). Model configuration namelists are provided for each case (fms_tl_clearsky, fms_tl_tau0.1, fms_tl_tau0.5, and fms_tl_tau1.0). Python code used to generate figures is included as a Jupyter Notebook (Harwick25_Apj.ipynb).
