The N2O reduction has been considered negligible under acidic conditions and physiology characterization revealed that assembly of N2O reductase is impaired at pH below 6. In this research, we acquired a co-culture harboring a novel acidophilic Desulfosporosinus species grows with N2O as electron acceptor. Extensive efforts were applied to characterize the novel N2O reducer as the axenic culture is not readily avaiable.
