Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a primary abiotic limitation on acidic soil, however, few studies have investigated the regulation mechanisms of native species response to Al toxic, in particular the role of root endophytes. The present study elucidates the tolerance mechanisms of native species Rhodedondron rex, located in acidic forest soils with high concentrations of Al, by integrating soil chemistry, plant physiological and biochemical indicators, root gene expression, root metabolites and endophytic microbiome data.
