Biol 2050 WK 3 Field Dataset 1

A sample of plant populations and communities were collected into a dataset from the grasslands area at York University Keele Campus on Friday, September 26, 2014. The weather was warm; 23 degrees Celsius and sunny. Data was collected in both sunny and shady areas of the grassland. Quadrats made of metal were placed in vegetation on the ground to record plant diversity. Quadrats were randomly placed in order for samples of data to be free from bias. Data was measured quickly and visually, and was recorded with pencil and paper by Jenna Teixeira and Arlene Tran. The data measured was total abundance of plants, total number of different plant species, total cover of all vegetation, and total cover of grasses, within a quadrat. Total cover of all vegetation and total cover of grasses was measured by a percentage. Samples of quadrats was recorded and measured 25 times.
