SPIs of Plasmodiophora brassicae

Plasmodiophora brassicae, a soil-borne protist, causes the devastating clubroot disease in cruciferous crops worldwide. Field populations of this pathogen often consist of multiple strains, resulting in inconsistent data and unreliable resistance labeling in breeding. Low infection success rates have limited the generation of single-spore-derived isolates (SSIs). In this project, we aim to develop a simple and effective single-root protoplast-derived isolate (SPI) method to obtain nearly pure genetic isolates of P. brassicae.
