The first complete reference genome for the African yam bean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa)

We hereby provide the first chromosome-scale assembly of the African yam bean, Sphenostylis stenocarpa (Hochst. ex. A. Rich.) Harms, an original African tuberous legume producing both pods and protein-rich tubers. Though an orphan crop so far, the resilient African yam bean is a legume with a high potential to tackle issues of food insecurity against the backdrop of climate warming, especially in western, central and eastern Africa.
