Delivery of metabolically active probiotics to the gut for improved brain health

We investigated the genomes of the two L. reuteri strains present in SH-DS01 for the genetic capacity to produce vitamin B12. This bioinformatics analysis revealed that only L. reuteri strain SD-LRE2-IT (DSM 23879) is able to produce vitamin B12, whereas SD-RD830-FR lacked all genetic loci involved, including the cob, cbi and hem clusters. Indeed L. reuteri SD-LRE2-IT (DSM 23879) was confirmed in vitro to have the capacity to produce vitamin B12 (40.57 ug/L).
