Dermatophilus congolensis causes dermatophilosis in cattle in the tropics. It has now become a neglected disease and the bacteria are gathering resistance to antibiotics that previously have been used to treat the disease. This study aims at understanding the genetic characteristics of these new strains that are now causing a severe disease in cattle. The bacteria can also infect humans.
