Genome sequencing and assembly of bacterial isolates from Grayson-Gunnar Cave, KY, USA

There has been relatively little study of microorganisms that live in the vadose region of the critical zone. Microbes growing in the region of the vadose zone that can be accessed through caves must contend with low levels of nitrogen and organic carbon, and complex geochemical conditions. Knowledge of the genetics and biochemistry of such organisms lags due to the difficulty in sampling and culturing such organisms. Presented here are genome assemblies of two Bacillus isolates from Grayson-Gunnar Cave (GGC) KY, USA. Annotated assemblies can help identify adaptations which allow for survival in these nutrient-limited environments.
