THE IMPORTANCE OF MULTILINGUALISM IN THE MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM

Multilingualism, defined as the ability to communicate in multiple languages, has become a critical component of modern education systems worldwide. The increasing globalization of societies, advancements in technology, and the growing interconnectivity of economies have amplified the demand for students proficient in more than one language. This study aims to examine the importance of multilingualism in contemporary educational settings, focusing on its cognitive, social, and academic benefits. The methodology involved a comprehensive literature review of recent studies published between 2015 and 2025, including both qualitative and quantitative research. Key sources were drawn from educational journals, linguistic studies, and international reports on language acquisition and pedagogy. The analysis highlighted patterns of multilingual education implementation in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, exploring how curricula are designed to promote language diversity and cultural awareness. The results indicate that multilingual students exhibit enhanced cognitive flexibility, improved problem-solving skills, and greater adaptability in multicultural environments.
