Characterization of a spin-liquid state in the triangular lattice antiferromagnet PrTa7O19

Rare-earth based geometrically frustrated magnets represent a promising new avenue for the search of enigmatic quantum spin liquids (QSL). These are disordered states with strong quantum entanglement and exotic magnetic excitations. In our study, we will focus on a novel triangular lattice antiferromagnet PrTa7O19, a sister compound of the previously studied NdTa7O19, where such effects might take place. Our preliminary bulk magnetic characterizations don’t show any signature of magnetic ordering in this material. This calls for more sensitive local-probe magnetic investigations that could unambiguously confirm the spin-liquid ground state and characterize the corresponding magnetic excitations. A µSR study at sub-kelvin temperatures should provide a valuable insight and confirm the spin-liquid conjecture in this novel rare-earth based triangular lattice antiferromagnet.
