Temporal survey of lake bacterioplankton diversity. freshwater metagenome

We investigated the importance of different sources of bacterial dispersal to lake water; precipitation, surface runoff, and sediment resuspension. Two small forest lakes (<1 km2), 4 and 11 meters deep, were sampled at two depths over a period of 10 months. Dispersal rates were quantified using sediment and rain traps as well as hydrological estimates of water flow, and the influence on community composition was determined by 454 sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene.
