This research focuses on the development and application of carbon dots (CDs)-a novel fluorescent material. Based on the teaching content of CDs in traditional physical chemistry experimental teaching, a comprehensive experimental teaching plan is designed for senior undergraduates majoring in chemistry. There are three-level innovations in the teaching content. At the method level, the traditional hydrothermal method is innovatively extended to a comparative study of the hydrothermal and microwave methods, which guides students to prepare blue carbon dots (b-CDs) and green carbon dots (g-CDs) with different fluorescence characteristics. At the material level, carbon dots starch composite (CDs@St) is developed, which overcomes the technical problem of solid-state aggregation-induced quenching of carbon dots. At the application level, students are guided to successfully apply CDs@St to the preparation of white light emitting diode (WLED) devices, thus establishing a complete teaching chain from basic research to practical application.In teaching practice, a three-stage progressive teaching method is employed, which consists of virtual simulation preview, experimental operation training, and innovation application expansion. The ideological and political elements of the curriculum are organically integrated into the whole process of preparation, characterization, and application. Practice has demonstrated that this program not only helps students systematically master the basic experimental skills for CDs research but also significantly improves their innovation ability and practical qualities. It offers a replicable experimental teaching model for cultivating innovative, interdisciplinary, and application-oriented talents in the field of chemistry.
