This project shows that seagrass ecosystems reduce marine bacterial pathogens implicated indisease outbreaks of numerous fishes and invertebrates. Seagrass meadows thus provide an entirely novel ecosystem service by mitigating waterborne pathogens and improving water quality. Financial returns gained by harnessing ecosystem services will support innovative conservation of marine biodiversity and economic investment
