In 2020, Syria was the country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with the highest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs), reaching nearly 6.6 million. It was also the country with the highest number of IDPs in the world. In the MENA region, Yemen had the second highest number of IDPs with 3.6 million, followed by Iraq with 1.2 million.
