Equine fecal microbiota sequencing in response to NSAIDs

The goal of this study was to determine if NSAIDs altered the fecal microbiota of adult horses. An additional aim was to determine if there were differential effects of COX selective vs. non-selective NSAIDs on the fecal microbiota of adult horses. NSAIDs are commonly used in both human and veterinary medicine and there is increasing evidence that NSAIDs alter the microbiota. The alteration may be beneficial to the host (i.e., an adpative response) or it may represent a negative change that has the potential to be clinically significant given the importance of the microbiota in health and disease.
