The orientation dynamics of silica–nickel Janus particles (JPs) in a time-varying magnetic field was investigated using millisecond time-resolved ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS). Upon turning on the external field within a millisecond, JPs oriented preferably with their symmetry axis along the field direction. From the anisotropic USAXS patterns, the time-dependent orientation distribution function of JPs was derived.
