The goal of this study is to describe the fungal preferences of four co-occurring orchids in a tropical rainforest in Costa Rica by addressing the following specific research questions: 1 ) What is the identity and structure of the endophytic fungal community associated with four epiphytic orchid species? 2) Do the co-occurring epiphytic orchids Dichaea eburnea, Epidendrum odontochilum, Masdevallia nidifica and Oncidium klotzschianum show an overlap in the OMF and endophytic fungal communities within their roots? 3) Do the juvenile and reproductive plants of each species host distinct OMF communities?
