The complete genome sequencing of a newly isolated poly-gamma-glutamic acid (PGA)-producing strain, Bacillus subtilis Ia1a, is considered as a robust tool to facilitate engineering of a potent production strain. Exopolysaccharides (EPS) and many industrially important enzymes can be produced by the new strain utilizing different carbon sources.
