Effects of sexual identity on queer athletes' wellbeing and performance

This dataset contains a qualitative analysis of 80 autobiographical stories published by queer athletes on Outsports.com. By applying Cultural Sport Psychology (CSP) and social theory, especially Foucault’s work, the analysis critiques traditional sport psychology's neglect of marginalized identities. The study reveals that denying one’s sexual identity in favor of athletic performance often harms both performance and wellbeing. Embracing both identities, however, supports peak performance and personal growth. The findings emphasize the need for a more inclusive, socially aware sport psychology framework.
