The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is the most widespread bird of its kind found almost anywhere in the world except in polar and desert regions, and is also referred to as the Common Barn Owl. Contrary to other owls, the Barn Owl does not hoot but produces an ear-shattering scream-like sound. These data have been produced as part of the avian phylogenomic project . DNA from the Tyto alba was collected in USA. We sequenced the 1.6Gb genome to a depth of approximately 27XThe assembled scaffolds of high quality sequences total 1.14G, with the contig and scaffold N50 values of 13K and 51K respectively. We identified 13613 protein-coding genes with a mean length of 13.8kb.
