Data collected in the field including the proportional cover of each species in each sampling unit (20 x 20 cm quadrats). Sampling units are ordered according to its position in an environmental gradient. For each species and sampling unit, up to 10 individual plants were sampled and its functional traits measured (plant height, leaf area and specific leaf area)
