资源简介:
Photograph of the interior view of Mission Santa Clara de Asis, looking towards the altar, ca.1890. The main altar, which is highly ornate, is situated behind a low wooden balustrade. On it are candles and other objects. There are paintings on the wall behind. The ceiling is also decorated with painting. The pulpit is visible at right. Several dozen pews form two columns down through the church with a large aisle in the middle and two smaller aisles on the sides near the walls. On the walls hang paintings (or pictures?) in frames with a cross on top. Candles flank the paintings. The ceiling appears to be made of hard wood with stained crisscross decorations.; Picture file card reads: "In 1881, the adobe walls of the church were removed from the façade to the sacristy, widening the church. Wooden walls replaced the adobe thus removed. Extent of widening may be seen in photos #980 and #5909. In these two photographs may be seen the original reredos, pulpit and statues. The sanctuary ceiling is also original. This church burned Oct. 25, 1926." -- Edith Webb.
