GESIS Panel.dbd Web Tracking - Campus File (Training and Teaching Dataset)

The Campus File is a privacy-protected dataset derived from the web tracking component of the GESIS Panel.dbd Prerelease, which was collected during the 2024 European Parliament election campaign. While the original Prerelease Scientific Use File (SUF) contains detailed browser-based web tracking data (including domains, URLs, and HTML snapshots) linked to rich survey information, the Campus File provides a strongly anonymized and simplified version of these data for training, teaching, demonstration, and methodological exercises. The Campus File includes all participants who consented to and participated in web tracking via the GESIS Surf browser plugin. The Campus File contains (a) aggregated host-level visit data with timestamps, (b) a small set of coarsened demographic survey indicators, and (c) a limited selection of non-sensitive attitudinal and behavioral survey items. All full URLs, HTML content, session structures, and sensitive survey variables are removed. The dataset is subject to multiple anonymization safeguards, including host-level aggregation, minimum frequency thresholding, de-regionalization of hosts, suppression of sensitive domains, and manual review of remaining host identifiers. As a result, the Campus File cannot be used to reconstruct individual browsing behavior or identify participants and is explicitly restricted to non-scientific, instructional use.
