VPRS 12154 Files Relating to the Wodonga Development Committee

As part of post-war planning, the State Government established within the Premiers Department a Division of State Development (VA 2717) responsible for both development and decentralisation. This Division was under the charge of the Minister for either State Development or Decentralisation or both, although administratively located within the Department of the Premier. The major goal was the balanced economic, industrial and rural development of the State. A number of subsidiary Committees and agencies were established to investigate and promote development and decentralisation and provide advice to Government regarding these matters.The function of the Wodonga Development Committee was to assist in promoting Wodonga as a site for decentralised industry and for further development. Records in this series include copies of the Minutes of some Committee meetings, correspondence and administrative arrangements regarding the Committee.This series was accumulated within the Division of State Development by an officer in that Division and are not the records of the Committee itself. However, they do provide some evidence of its functions and activities.
