Human perception of visual and acoustic diversity

This dataset contains data from two studies that investigated what people perceive when looking at forest photographs showing varying levels of tree richness or listening to forest audio recordings with varying levels of bird richness. 48 participants per study sorted the photos / audio recordings i) according to any similarity-based criterion they liked and ii) according to species richness. We further computed visual and acoustic diversity indices for the sorting stimuli to test whether there are diversity indices that are associated with both actual species richness and perceived diversity.
