Human papillomaviruses in inverted sinonasal papillomas

Inverted sinonasal papillomas are rare bening epithelial neoplasias, with an incidence around 1 case per 200,000 persons per year. The aetiology of the disease is not clearly identified. We have aimed at evaluating the possible contribution of infection by human papillomaviruses (HPVs) as a contributing factor to the development of inverted sinonasal papillomas. The results from 77 clinical samples (communicated in PMID 31916205) show that only a small fraction (5%) of inverted sinonasal papillomas seem to contain HPVs sequences, and that HPV11 seems to be the only HPV present in the biopsies studied.
