The EULIAA lidar measures atmospheric profiles from roughly 3 to 50 km of altitude. Specifically, the files in the dataset contain three-dimensional wind data (zonal and meridional wind, and vertical air motion), as well as particle backscatter, stored in two-dimensional arrays (time and altitude). When available, retrieved temperature profiles are also included. The files are available in NetCDF format and follow the CF (Climate and Forecast) conventions, which are a widely used standard in the Earth sciences community. For each variable, the associated error field is included, together with a quality flag. The data are aggregated daily. The variable definitions and retrieval methods are described in the variable metadata within the files. The atmospheric data can be retrieved with different temporal integration times. In the dataset, measurements obtained with a 20-minute integration time are included as a baseline. When available, data retrieved with a 60-minute integration time, covering the same time frame, are also included. The former is intended for high-resolution analyses of the wind field and backscatter; the latter (60 min) is appropriate for analyses of temperature profiles, which have a higher accuracy when retrieved using longer integration times. The integration time is included in the filename, as well as in the NetCDF global attributes. This resource is complemented by the knowledge resource "EULIAA - Validation data" (DOI: 10.60566/xnage-e6c19), which contains atmospheric data from various sources (e.g., radiosonde profiles, ECMWF model runs), that may be used for comparison against EULIAA measurements, or to fill gaps when measurements are missing.
