Black sesame has a high-value cash crop, multiple applications in terms of health-benefitting compounds in the seed, oil, and pressed seedcake. Previous research efforts and including the warmest season sesame harvesting, opened an opportunity for the CQUniversity in collaboration with the CRC for Northern Australia and Agriventis Technologies Ltd Pty, for further investigation and potential use in future breeding programs. Although, only 525 hectares of land are annually sown in Australia, hence, there is a golden window for Australia to become a leading trader of this product, due to the lack of research in the nutritional compounds of the black sesame seed, oil and pressed seedcake, as well as contributing valuable information allowing farmers to capitalise on this international market. The contribution of this study, particularly in the sesame derivatives, may lead to the recommend guideline for the selection of ideal black sesame seed lines best suited for its expansion in the northern Australia cropping industry, by using material from earlier conducted growing trials

黑芝麻是一种高经济价值的经济作物,其籽粒、油脂及压榨籽饼中含有多种有益健康的功能性成分,具备多维度应用价值。此前开展的相关研究(包括针对芝麻旺季采收的研究)为中央昆士兰大学(CQUniversity)与澳大利亚北部合作研究中心(CRC for Northern Australia)以及Agriventis Technologies Ltd Pty展开合作,进一步开展相关研究并将成果应用于未来育种项目提供了契机。尽管目前澳大利亚每年仅种植525公顷黑芝麻,但由于当前针对黑芝麻籽粒、油脂及压榨籽饼营养成分的研究仍较为匮乏,澳大利亚借此有望成为该产品的核心贸易商,同时也可为农户把握国际市场机遇提供宝贵的参考依据。本研究依托前期种植试验获取的试验材料,重点围绕芝麻衍生产品展开分析,有望为筛选适配澳大利亚北部种植业扩张需求的优质黑芝麻品系提供推荐标准。
