Wastewater-based and case-based Surveillance data for monitoring COVID-19 in Germany, 2022–2025

The dataset comprises wastewater-based and case-based indicators for COVID-19 monitoring in Germany over a 170-week period from mid-2022 to September 2025. The dataset includes nationally aggregated, population-weighted wastewater viral loads and four case-based surveillance systems. These systems comprise two syndromic surveillance systems at the population, one primary care-level system, and one system based on laboratory-confirmed notification data. The indicators derived from these case-based systems aim at quantifying the COVID-19 incidence at population level in Germany. The dataset allows for the assessment of the responsiveness and interpretability of wastewater viral loads relative to case-based systems measuring incidence.
