We aimed to investigate how cyanobacteria are transported to the mesopelagic zone of the Sea of Japan. Sinking particles were collected using sediment traps moored at a depth of 890 m, and their composition and flux were examined through a combination of microscopic observations, amplicon sequencing, and qPCR analyses.
