Detection of Blastomyces gilchristii via metagenomic sequencing in outbreak-associated soils

Blastomycosis is a potentially serious fungal infection found in the Mississippi, Ohio, and St. Lawrence river valleys of the United States. While globally rare, Wisconsin is a hotspot for blastomycosis. This dataset includes metagenomes from soils associated with an outbreak of blastomycosis on the Little Wolf River in Wisconsin. One sample, LWR17, was positive for Blastomyces by PCR and metagenomic analysis. We sequenced theses soil samples to multiple depths to learn about the detection threshold for Blastomyces.
