Floral Morphometry of Mormodes tapoayensis from Domingos-Melo et al. 2025, Biotropica (FLORAL HANDEDNESS IN MORMODES ORCHIDS: REVISITING CHARLES DARWIN'S OBSERVATIONS)

This dataset accompanies the article “Floral handedness in Mormodes orchids: revisiting Charles Darwin’s observations” by Domingos-Melo, Silva & Milet-Pinheiro. It contains the raw data used to investigate floral enantiostyly in Mormodes tapoayensis (Orchidaceae: Catasetinae), a rare case of mirrored floral morphology in orchids. The dataset includes: - Morphometric measurements of floral structures in Mormodes species. - Information on floral orientation and handedness (left- vs. right-styled flowers). These data were used to quantify floral polymorphism, illustrate dynamic floral movements, and propose the hypothesis that mirrored flower morphs promote cross-pollination by depositing pollinia on opposite sides of pollinators’ bodies.
