Activity and interactions of cable bacteria

This thesis explores the interactions between cable bacteria and their environment in estuarine sediment. Cable bacteria are centimetres long, and are known to be highly electrically conductive. In this work, the ability for cable bacteria to transport electrons to external materials was demonstrated, both in the environment and on gold electrodes. It was also shown that they do not interact strongly with minerals in their environment, but are affected by changes in salinity.
