VPRS 18785 Blasting Operation Project Books

This series comprises volumes that appear to have been created to document and keep track of the progress of blasting operation projects in Port Phillip Bay and Port Phillip Heads. The information recorded in these volumes includes blasting instructions, blasting results and measurements prior to and post blasting, project expenditures and remarks on the general day to day running of the blasting operations. Blasting of the sea bed and rock outcrops was used to deepen and widen the Port Phillip Bay entrance and to deepen the Port Phillip Bay channels to ensure safe passage of shipping. It also opened up the Bay to accept larger ships. Before coming into the custody of Public Record Office Victoria, this series was held at the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.
