CO₂ adsorption by ordered mesoporous substrates modified with amine-terminated dendrimers

Global warming concerns are widely believed to be associated with the rapidly increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. One approach to addressing this issue is to capture and then sequester CO2 emissions from intensive point sources such as power stations. One current method involves modification of ordered mesoporous substrates with amine-containing organic moieties to generate CO2 adsorbents. Such adsorbents operate based on the fact that amine groups provide basic adsorption sites that can selectively interact with the weakly acidic CO? molecules in flue gas. If the adsorption capacity and other features were appropriate, such adsorbents could then be utilized in vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) or other similar cyclic processes.
