An Archaic hearth was examined archaeologically at the Lindenmeier Site.
Soil sanples were collected from this hearth to be studied for pollen,
phytoliths, and macrofloral remains. Control sanples from the modern surface
were also examined for pollen and phytoliths. The object of these archaeobotanic
studies was to characterize local vegetation at the time of the Archaic
occupation and compare that to the present vegetation, as well as to identify any
plants that were processed in this hearth.
