The study explored alternative methods for assessing soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and biodiversity in natural, restored, and recolonized mangroves in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon. Soil carbon dioxide efflux, used as a proxy for GHG emissions, was measured with a low-cost portable carbon dioxide meter. Additionally, biodiversity was assessed through eDNA metabarcoding of mangrove sediments. These methods show great potential for rapid assessment and monitoring of mangrove restoration initiatives.
