Rule 161 of the Rules and Regulations of 1883 required that "Any person desiring to prevent the payment of money out of court shall file a notice, and thereupon the registrar shall enter a caveat in the caveat payment book". Rule 162 further provided that if the person entering the caveat was not a party to the action, his name and address had to be clearly stated in the caveat. This volume is a record of caveats entered against the payment of monies remaining in the court from the proceeds of the sale of ships unless notice was first given to the party filing the caveat. The date the caveat was entered, case number and names of plaintiff and defendant are noted. The date the caveat was withdrawn is also noted if applicable. The final three entries, caveat payments against the "Karu", refer to actions instituted in the Supreme Court in its Admiralty Jurisdiction. 1897-1904, 1925 (1/2812 part). 1 vol (part).
