This series comprises 6 copies of a report on "Observations on Some Aspects of International Theatre Design", compiled by Hall, Todd and Littlemore (architects). The report resulted from a decision that the "current [Sydney] Opera House design should be examined on the basis of the experience of available experts, and the latest available international standards, modified as may be necessary in view of modern technologies, local conditions, traditions and recognized authorities". In order for the Sydney Opera House to obtain a licence under the Theatre and Public Halls Act, the Chief Secretary needed to approve its design. It was therefore resolved to send Mr A.J. McFarlane (Government Architect's Branch) and Mr John T. Rourke (Hall, Todd and Littlemore) overseas to view theatre standards in other parts of the world so that the Chief Secretary's decision could be exercised with a background of current overseas practice.
