Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) is associated with food-borne disease in humans, usually via fecal contamination of food sources by ruminant hosts. We have sequenced 55 non-O157 STEC strains, representing several other common STEC serotypes, in order to identify vaccine antigen candidates and to establish the evolutionary relationship of STEC. The collection includes isolates from human, animal and food, primarily from Australian sources.
